Tavistock Heritage Festival

Tavistock will be celebrating 1000 years of history this October with the launch of the town’s first ever Heritage Festival. The aim of the festival is to highlight and celebrate Tavistock’s unique history and heritage through a series of different events for people of all ages and interests. For three days the town will be alive with exhibitions, displays, talks, guided walks, concerts, workshops, plays, market and a variety of living history events all highlighting some key moments in the town’s history.

Market usually takes place on the 4th Saturday of the month. An interesting range of produce, from olives and olive oil to locally grown vegetables and plants. Cheeses, apple juice, honey, home made bread, cakes, jams; chutneys etc. are all there with the core stalls being beef, lamb and pork from local Widecombe farms. Refreshments are provided by local groups and charities who benefit from the proceeds.

The Big Draw - 'Folklore Forest'

Join the 2014 National Campaign for Drawing! Drop in to family fun days with creative activities inspired by our exhibition 'Home Ground' - all about local environment and heritage. They also fit into this year's Big Draw theme: 'It's Our World' - a celebration of our environment, urban, rural and coastal landscapes. So this year we will bring the woods, tors and moors of Devon's National Park, into our gallery! Qualified artistswill guide you through drawing and making activities based on the landscape of Dartmoor. Use recycled and drawing materials to construct, model and draw 2-D and 3-D leaves, seeds, pods, vines, twigs and folk-creatures to re-create a wild wood in our gallery. Add to a day and night-time folklore forest which will grow in the space over 2 days. All ages welcome. This is a free, drop-in event, 11am-4pm. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
