<title>New team to manage Dartmoor National Park</title><link>http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/au_chairpr0609</link><guid>http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/au_chairpr0609</guid><pubDate>Mon, 29 Jun 2009 11:48:00 GMT</pubDate><description>At its Annual Meeting on 26 June 2009 Dartmoor National Park Authority elected a new team of Members to oversee the management of the National Park. Bill Hitchins was elected Chairman of the National Park Authority and Maurice Retallick as Deputy Chairman.


Following his election Bill Hitchins thanked the membership for their support and paid tribute to the dedication and leadership of Nigel Hoskin the former Chairman who stood down after four years in the role.

A partnership of Dartmoor National Park Authority, the Woodland Trust and the National Trust, with funding from the SITA Trust, through the Landfill Communities Fund, set up the £25,000 research project two years ago to shed light on the ecology of one of the rarest British mammals.

As well as nationally rare species such high brown fritillary there also overlooked gems such as the purple hairstreak, ringlet and white admiral.  Visitors to Dartmoor National Park Authority’s High Moorland Visitor Centre in Princetown can be sure of seeing some of Devon’s wonderful butterflies in a superb new watercolour exhibition by Chagford based artist Eleanor Ludgate. The exhibition runs from 26 June to 22 July.</description>
