Appeal and Popularity

The main features offered by the attraction -

See the factsheets section, especially Dartmoor Commons; General; Geology; Habitats; Prehistoric Archaeology; Ponies; Recreation and Tourism; Tin; Bogs and Wetlands and pictures of Dartmoor National Park throughout this web site.

Extra features for particular visitor type -

The Dartmoor area is able to offer a uniquely large area of access land (45,639 hectares) where the general public has the right to wander, plus 724 kilometres of public rights of way.

Special events and activities -

Look at Events on Dartmoor, Moor Care Activities, Walking, Camping and Backpacking, Cycling, Horse Riding, Letterboxing, Canoeing, Climbing and Recreational Events).

Catering facilities -

Look at the Accommodation and Dartmoor Partnership (external link, opens in new window) and other links from the web site. The National Park Authority does not run catering facilities.

Other facilities and activities -

Visit the Enjoying Dartmoor page to find out how people make the most of their visit to Dartmoor.

There are links to websites for other attractions and organisations on the Further Information page.

See Easy Going Dartmoor for people with limited mobility. See Education Service Guide Hire for youth and school groups.

Visitor numbers and trends over time -

Visitor data for Dartmoor is limited and rather out of date. The most up to date and comprehensive information that we have to offer is contained on the Recreation and Tourism factsheet, the State of the Park Report and the STEAM report. PDF icon 356kb (PDF Help)
