Newbridge Information Centre Closed
At its meeting on 3 October 2008 Dartmoor National Park Authority made the decision to close the information facility at Newbridge. The present facility is a portacabin which lies on common land under private ownership in an environmentally and visually sensitive area. The Authority considers the facility to be no longer fit for purpose with regards to the needs of visitors, locals and staff. Assessments of the structure have also revealed problems relating to the floor and roof.
It is proposed to enhance the current interpretation board on site and local businesses will continue to be able to advertise on the new provision. It is also hoped that the site of the portacabin can be retained and remodelled to enable the deployment of a more flexible and cost effective mobile facility during peak periods. It is proposed to remove the portacabin from the site by 31 December 2008.
The centre closed on Sunday 2 November at 4pm.
