Walking for People with Special Needs

Despite its high rugged nature Dartmoor has much to offer people of all ages and abilities.

Easy Going Dartmoor

Easy Going Dartmoor has been produced to help people with special needs enjoy the National Park.  As well as useful visitor information such as location of toilets and Information Centres the guide has a number of suggested walks for people with special needs. they are split into Easy Going Walks and More Adventurous Walks (for those looking for more of a challenge).  All of the walks  have been developed in conjunction with Dartmoor For All a local access group made up of people from Dartmoor who themselves have special needs. The group helps the National Park Authority to survey, monitor and maintain easy going routes on Dartmoor.

Each walk is illustrated with a map which tells you what you can expect in terms of gradients, cambers, surface of the route and obstacles. This allows you to make a decision about the suitability of the route to you.  All of the routes are situated close to parking and many have dedicated parking given your own needs and requirements.

Easy Going Tours

If you prefer to go out with the local knowledge and expertise of a National Park Guide you could try one of our Easy Going Dartmoor Tours. These tours are run in conjunction with local ring and ride operators and give you a day out on Dartmoor accompanied by one of our guides who will talk about all the wonderful places you are passing. We usually include a stop for lunch and tea and a short walk.  Attendants, carers and family are welcome to join. For further information see the guided walks and events pages or ring 01822 890414
