Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
This document sets out the scope and arrangements for consultation and participation for each local development document in the Local Development Framework to ensure that they are sound with respect to community involvement and public participation. The SCI also covers public involvement in development management.
This document was submitted to the Secretary of State and was subject to public consultation over a 6 week period from Friday 23 June (submission date) to Friday 4 August 2006.
An inspector from the Planning Inspectorate held an independent examination and submitted his binding report to the Authority in November 2006.
The Authority adopted the SCI on 12 January 2007.

Amendments to the local development regulations: The Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 (external link, opens new window) came into force on 27 June 2008. They simplify the procedures to be followed in preparing or revising development plan documents and statements of community involvement. They also provide for new bodies to be involved in their preparation. A revised Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 12: Creating strong, safe and prosperous communities through Local Spatial Planning (DCLG June 2008) (external link, opens new window) has also been published. The preface to the SCI refers to the effects of the changes.
