Meldon Quarry and Reservoir SSSI (SX5691)
Opportunities for interesting walks around the reservoir and the local area including a Hazel and Bluebell woodland, with a good population of Dormice, just north of the impressive Meldon Viaduct. A good starting point for a visit to Black-a-Tor Copse and the highest point on Dartmoor, High Willhayes. Parking and toilet facilities are available at the Reservior and a café and information centre at the viaduct. You can walk to the area along the Dartmoor Way from Okehampton, while the Granite Way, part of the National Cycle Network, starts here.
For more information on the Meldon area visit the Meldon Case Studies.
