This National Nature Reserve comprises oak-beech woodland which was formerly wood pasture with coppice. Because of the long continuity of minimal intervention management, the reserve is used for long-term monitoring of woodland change and environmental factors. Dendles Wood is situated 2 miles north of Cornwood, on the southern edge of Dartmoor. The nearest car park is in Cornwood. There is no disabled access to the site, and public access is limited to permit holders only. Applications for permits should be sent to the Site Manager at Natural England, Yarner Wood, Bovey Tracey, Devon, TQ13 9LJ. The nearest facilities to the site are located in Cornwood. A permissive path through adjacent Hawns Wood, owned by Dartmoor National Park Authority, can take you up to the open moor.
