Dartmoor’s Built Heritage

Dartmoor has a wealth of historic buildings and structures. The range of buildings and structures is broad both in type, size and age, from individual structures such as milestones, bridges or telephone boxes, to moorland farmsteads with their stone walled fields, to hamlets, villages and towns. All contribute significantly to the special nature and quality of Dartmoor providing both visual attraction but also a wonderful insight into Dartmoor’s past.

Dartmoor National Park Authority offers professional building conservation advice on all aspects of historic buildings, in particular, specialist help for listed buildings to owners, agents and builders relating to the maintenance, repair, alteration or extension of this valuable and visible Dartmoor resource. The Authority works closely with other conservation bodies, such as English Heritage and Defra.
