Partnerships
Dartmoor National Park Authority recognises that everyone with an interest in, or place upon, Dartmoor has a part to play in its future which must be encouraged and appreciated. The Ranger Service works with landowners, commoners and local schools, maintaining strong links with the local community. Rangers attend Parish Council meetings and keep in regular contact with parish clerks. Partnership working is carried out with many agencies and organisations to achieve National Park purposes. The Ranger Service works with the Police, to tackle rural crime issues, such as wildlife and vehicle crime, by the sharing of intelligence and regular patrols and monitoring of specific sites. | ![]() |
![]() | The Ranger Service and specialist Officers from the National Park Authority work with organisations such as the Fire and Rescue Service, English Nature, the Dartmoor Commoners’ Council, Rural Development Service, South West Lakes Trust, Forest Enterprise and the Ministry of Defence, to ensure best practice in the annual swaling (legal burning) of moorland vegetation and the tackling of wildfires. The Ranger Service plays an active role in the management of recreational events such as the Ten Tors challenge and maintains contact with recreational user groups and local community groups on environmental and access management projects across Dartmoor.
