International

The world’s first National Park was established at  Yellowstone, Wyoming, USA on 1 March 1872.

In the twenty first century, protected areas worldwide

  • including National Parks, nature parks, and biosphere reserves
  • play a vital role in safeguarding nature, wildlife and landscapes.

They offer refuge to species and ecosystems and they help to preserve natural beauty in all its variety for us to experience and enjoy.

The IRF shares knowledge and resources and fosters professional exchange among Rangers, improving the professional standards of Rangers throughout the world and advancing the aims of the World Conservation Strategy.

Dartmoor National Park Authority has formed partnerships with Hortobagy National Park, in Hungary, and Retezat National Park in Romania. There is a programme of exchange and Ranger Service personnel as well as other specialist staff have benefited from shared knowledge and experience.
