At Work
The Ranger Service works very closely with volunteers from schools and colleges, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and in partnership with many other agencies, on a vast range of conservation projects. Work includes litter clearance, tree planting, hedgelaying, pond and leat clearance, public rights of way maintenance, scrub clearing and erosion repairs.Rangers work with landowners and commoners on land management tasks including the controlled burning of moorland vegetation (swaling). | ![]() |

Rangers work with landowners and commoners on land management tasks including the controlled burning of moorland vegetation (swaling). Rangers are involved with Community Safety Partnership schemes, designed to tackle anti social behaviour, such as car crime, fly tipping and abandoned vehicles on Dartmoor, and attend community events and parish meetings to maintain contact with local communities. They are often the first point of contact for visitors to the National Park and help maintain the balance between the pressures of recreation and conservation and the working and residential environment of the National Park. |
Rangers also help to operate the Ranger Ralph Club which is popular with the younger generation of residents and visitors to Dartmoor alike. ![]() | ![]() |
