Earth Science links:
- The interactive site of the Joint Earth Science Education Initiative (external link, opens new window) helps teachers to build up their background knowledge of Earth Science ‘and bring science teaching to life.’ There is a comprehensive set of teaching topics and resources.
- The Geological Society. (external link, opens new window) This has an excellent teaching resource section particularly for KS 3. The information in these sections is particularly useful as background information for Primary Teachers.
- UK regionally important geological and geomorphological sites are listed by county based RIGS groups. They can be contacted for information on suitable sites to visit to investigate exposures of rocks in their local area. Of particular relevance to Dartmoor is the Meldon Aplite Quarry. Sustainable Development links:
- Centre for Alternative Energy (external link, opens new window) is an interesting web site with information about constructing buidings with a low environmental impact. There are also useful downloads (external link, opens new window) for teaching sustainable development.
- The Hockerton Housing Project (external link, opens new window) An excellent example of a community living in a network of low environment impact buildings.
