What is the Dartmoor National Park Authority Education Grant Scheme?
The Education Grant Scheme is available to support opportunities for learning on or about Dartmoor and the work of the National Park Authority. The criteria are listed below.
Grant
criteria: projects must ...
1 Contribute to the National Park’s Authority’s Education Service objectives, outlined in the Dartmoor
National Park Authority Management Plan 2001. These are:
- to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the special qualities of Dartmoor’s landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage among young people, students and all those involved in life long learning;
- to raise awareness of National Park purposes and of the National Park Authority’s policies and activities;
- to raise awareness of how individual lifestyle and behaviour may foster wider environmental sustainability;
- to promote the highest standards in the quality of education, conduct and safety of groups visiting Dartmoor and;
- to minimise any negative impacts on the environment and local community.
2 Additionally, we are keen to support projects that develop new ideas for learning, involve young people and other members of the community in delivering and running the project, promote social inclusion and encourage partnership working.
How much can
you apply for?
The maximum award is £750 towards any one project
/ applicant in any one financial year for up to 90% of approved project costs. You may apply for less than the full 90% grant.
You may find the balancing funds from within your organisation’s own reserves, or from other funders or partners, but you must tell us how this matched funding will be provided and whether you are applying for grants from other sources. All grants are discretionary.
What can you
use the grant for?
Almost anything that you need to carry out your project. As well as grants for materials and equipment, we are happy to help with items which may have been difficult
to obtain funding for, such as transport, research costs and feasibility studies.
What
won’t the grant pay for?
However the grant does not fund purchase of land or buildings,
benefits that accrue solely to individuals or activities that have already been carried out or paid
for.
The grant is not available to the same organisation for repeat events. The grant aims to support new projects and therefore is not available for standard educational guided walks and activities.
Who can apply?
Anyone
representing or involved with a group that promotes education. This could be a school, a community group
or a group whose main purpose is not education (eg environmental or arts groups). The grant does not fund individuals.
When
can you apply?
Projects are assessed on an on-going basis,
so there is no deadline and you can apply at any time. When applying, please allow time for the assessment process, but do not apply too early, for example
before you have obtained any necessary permissions or done some costings for your project. A preliminary discussion with the Education Service at Dartmoor National Park Authority (NPA) can advise
on eligibility and help with the application process.
When
will you know if you have been successful?
We aim to process
any Education Grant application within one month of receipt of a fully completed application form. If you are refused the grant we will tell you why.
What
makes for a successful application?
Your project must meet the grant criteria
- indicating clearly how your project supports these criteria will ensure that you have a good chance
of being successful.
A fully completed application form is essential and relevant supporting information (if necessary) will help speed up the decision process.
Are
there any conditions if you are successful?
Yes.
The following conditions apply to Education grants awarded by the NPA:
- you
must not claim for the same thing twice, but you can use funding from other sources
for different bits of the overall project.
If double funding is discovered the grant will be withdrawn or, if already paid, will be reimbursed to the NPA; - if there is an overpayment of the grant, the NPA shall be repaid the overpaid sum in full;
- payment may be withheld or reduced if the inspection proves the works have not met the standards set;
- payment will be reduced if the final costs are less than expected;
- unforeseen circumstances, which affect the grant on offer, will be communicated by the applicant to the granting officer as soon as possible;
- the applicant will allow access to the works/project by an officer of the NPA at all reasonable times and will permit photographs to be taken as a record and used for appropriate publicity;
- publications being aided will be shown in final draft form to the granting officer before publication;
- the applicant should acknowledge the assistance of the NPA in an appropriate way;
- the NPA will have the right to refer to the grant offered in any appropriate publicity.
Some of these conditions may apply to grants awarded:
- where applicable, the organisation’s Financial Accounts showing the grant received will be copied to the NPA;
- where specific assets have been acquired using the NPA grant, when no longer needed the applicant may be asked to return them;
- future maintenance, repair and replacement of the works done will be the responsibility of the applicant/project;
- payment will not be made for works done until an invoice has been presented and the works inspected/approved. Invoices for part completed projects or stages of a project will be considered at the discretion of the granting officer.
OTHER CONDITIONS MAY BE IDENTIFIED.
