Funding and Accounts

How we are funded

• Our projected budget for 2009/10 is £5.7m. We are not funded via the Council Tax but receive £4.6m in National Park Grant from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). The balance of our budget is from income and grants.
• we undertake management of the natural and cultural environment of Dartmoor;
• we are the planning authority for the National Park;
• we promote and fund sustainable development in and around the National Park.  Effective partnership working is central to our mission – we alone can not deliver National Park objectives; we need to continually work with a wide range of stakeholders who can help support and deliver National Park objectives.

Conservation of the Natural Environment - 14%
Conservation of the Cultural Heritage - 7%
Recreation Management - 9% (including Traffic & Transport)
Promoting Understanding - 18%
Rangers, Estates & Volunteers - 19%
Development Management - 16%
Forward Planning - 7%
Corporate & Democratic Core - 7%
Dartmoor Sustainable Development Fund - 3%

The Authority is required to produce an annual Statement of Accounts. This document shows local people and others what services the Authority has spent money on during the year, how these have been funded, and the financial position at the year-end. Inevitably it contains technical language and a glossary to help explain some of the terms can be found at the back of the document.
