Mr Jonathan Aylett
Mr Aylett studied history and archaeology before working for many years as a land agent and chartered surveyor, formerly for the National Trust in North Wales and currently for Michelmore Hughes in Totnes. He is a regular walker and member of the Devon Wildlife Trust, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, the Devon Birdwatching and Preservation Society and the Dartmoor Society. Mr Aylett is a professional member of the Country Land and Business Association and a member of the committee of the Dartmoor Commons Owners’ Association.
Mr Mark Bailey
Originally from a Highland hill farming background, Mr Bailey has yomped over Dartmoor during the course of a 34 year Royal Marines career and walked on it when at home in Buckfastleigh and then Bovey Tracey for the last 26 years. Now working as a civil servant and resident full time in the area, Mr Bailey is member of the Devon Wildlife Trust, the Dartmoor Society, the Bovey Tracey Heritage Trust, Bovey Climate Action and the Special Constabulary.
Mr John Ballantyne
Mr Ballantyne is a scholar in law, navigation, environmental sciences and outdoor activities. He is a member of the Royal institute of Navigation and of the Devonshire Association, as well as being Vice Chairman of ‘Dartmoor for All’ which advises on access and mobility issues. Mr Ballantyne is interested to represent people with disabilities.
Mr Simon Booty
Mr Booty owns and manages land in the heart of Dartmoor which is crossed by a popular public right of way together with access land and is also a grazier on Spitchwick common. He is interested in the history of Dartmoor, both natural and archaeological and the people who live and work on the moor. Member of NFU and Widecombe Parish Council
Mrs Clare Boughey
Mrs Boughey keeps sheep on a smallholding near Manaton, her land being crossed by right of way. She is a regular walker, a member of the NFU, RSPB and National Trust. She served for many years as a Parish Councillor and has worked with young people involved in the MED (Manaton and East Dartmoor) Theatre. Mrs Boughey works for a Community Care Trust, running care homes and befriending services for adults.
Mr Kevin Chamberlain
Mr Chamberlain has been walking, letterboxing and canoeing on Dartmoor for 15 years. He is a British Canoe Union member and instructor and was formerly the BCU’s Local Access Officer. He used to run an outdoor activities centre and currently assists Scouts groups (serving also as water access adviser to Devon Scouts. Mr Chamberlain is a Parish Councillor and works as a computer consultant.
Mr Philip French
Mr French farms at South Brent and keeps both sheep and cattle on Ugborough and South Brent Commons. A member and former Branch Chairman of the National Farmers’ Union, he has also chaired its Dartmoor Hill Farming Committee and is currently Vice Chairman of the local Livestock Forum. Mr French is currently Chairman of the South Brent Commoners’ Association.
Mr Roger Goulding
Mr Goulding is a keen walker with a particular interest in the archaeology and cultural heritage of Dartmoor. Along with his young family he also uses the moor for riding and feels strongly that the provision and promotion of access has an important role to play in encouraging young people to enjoy and appreciate the environment as well as helping to sustain many important local community facilities. Mr Goulding has a background in nature conservation, tourism and a wealth of local authority experience managing countryside services, sites and developing rights of way. He now works as the National Recreation Adviser for the Environment Agency.
Mr John Howell
Mr Howell is a keen walker, alone or with family and friends. He has been both a member and a leader of various walking groups and is currently Area Chairman of the Ramblers Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the Dartmoor Preservation Association. He is also interested in cultural heritage, conservation and sport, and is particularly keen to encourage use of the moor by residents of nearby urban areas.
Elizabeth Kitson DL
Lady Kitson walks on Dartmoor and paints its landscape, flora and fauna. She is a governor of Kelly College, a trustee of the Dartmoor Trust and a committee member of the Dartmoor Preservation Association. She was formerly the organiser of West Country Artists and is especially interested in wildlife and conservation issues. She is a member of the Environment Agency and SW Region Regional Fisheries, Ecology and Recreation Advisory Committee. Elizabeth Kitson is also a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Devon.
Mr Bill Lane
Mr Lane has 40 years experience of living on Dartmoor, and working with all users. He is keen to explore ways of resolving the conflicts that appear to be arising between environmentalists, the farming community, the military and visitors. With his wife he runs a Bed and Breakfast establishment, catering mainly for walking and cycling groups.
Mr Steven Palmer
Mr Palmer owns and lives on a farm near Hennock and also farms several areas of land within the National Park, some of which is crossed by the Templer Way. He also uses the moor recreationally, for horse riding, cycling and walking.
Mrs Joanna Radford
Mrs Radford has lived on Dartmoor for since 1981 and isa small-holder and commoner, keeping a small flock of pedigree Shetland sheep and breeding Dartmoor Ponies. She rides almost daily on the Moor, and has been involved for many years with both the South Devon Hunt and the South Devon Moorland Pony Club. She is also a practising artist-printmaker, a member of the Devon Artists Network and of the Dartmoor Society as well as of Aune Head Arts. She was, until her term of office expired, aboard memberof thisDartmoor based arts organisation.Sheis also Clerk of two parish councils, one of which is on Dartmoor.
Mr Bill Robertson
Mr Robertson lives on Dartmoor and is a keen fisherman. As Secretary of the Dart Fisheries Association he has played a key role in renegotiating the access agreement between the Dart Fisheries Association and the British Canoe Union, and would represent fishery interests on all Dartmoor rivers.
Mr Patrick Watson
Mr Watson is a regular walker, runner, cyclist and rider on Dartmoor, and also chairman of his local riding for the disabled group. His experience as estate manager with the National Trust gives him a good understanding of balancing participation in outdoor recreation with management of the land.
