Seeing the wood through the trees is an exhibition that celebrates trees, woodlands and the sustainable use of timber, with beautiful and individual wooden items for the home and garden crafted by local artist Sean Hellman. Sean’s inspiring woodland photography, some of which is combined with poetry by his wife Lucy Lepchani, is also on display.

Sean runs ‘Woodwright Designs’ (external link, opens new window) from his workshop in Buckfastleigh, and as a designer-maker he produces award winning furniture for the home and garden. He originally trained as a photographer and in recent years has been producing stunning photographs of Dartmoor’s notable trees.

Seasonal gifts made from locally sourced timber will also be on sale.

Lucy writes poetry and short stories for publication, runs creative writing sessions for schools and community groups, is a freelance copy-writer, and performs her poetry at Devon venues and arts events in the south west. She is currently producing a CD of her poetry and is funded by the Arts Council England. They live in Ashburton, Dartmoor.

The exhibition runs until Wednesday 5 December 2007. Princetown is accessible by public transport.  For timetable enquiries please telephone Traveline (external link, opens new window) on 0871 200 22 33.

National Parks cover 10% of the land area of England, Wales and Scotland.  They are of special value to the whole nation because of their great beauty, their wildlife and cultural interests and the opportunities they offer for quiet enjoyment.  However, they are not nationally owned - the land is in the hands of many landowners or occupiers including farmers.  Over 33,400 people live inside the Dartmoor National Park and many millions of visits are made to it each year.
