Celebration of Dartmoor Rivers at High Moorland Visitor Centre

Visitors to Dartmoor National Park Authority’s High Moorland Visitor Centre, Princetown, can enjoy the acclaimed exhibition, A Celebration of Dartmoor Rivers, by Dartmoor photographer, Vikky Minett.  The exhibition contains superb images, complemented by poetry and essays contributed by local people.

Vikky became interested in photography while studying fine art at Plymouth University.

River image, Vikky Minett 2007  She uses digital photography to capture frozen moments in time, her innate sense of visual composition and love of her subject producing remarkable results.  The images are taken close-up, giving an abstract quality to the work.

Vikky Minett said:

This exhibition is inspired by living on Dartmoor, surrounded by magical woodlands and spectacular moorland, and in particular by the magnificent rivers that run through this special place.’

‘Through these images I am keen to draw attention to the inestimable value of water, to remind us of how important this life-giving resource is to us all and how we can all help to protect this gift, by being consciously aware of how we use water in our daily lives.’

The exhibition runs until Wednesday 11 July 2007. The High Moorland Visitor Centre is open daily, 10 am to 5 pm.  Admission to the exhibition is free.

Princetown is accessible by public transport.  For timetable enquiries please telephone Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 or visit www.traveline.org.uk (external link, opens new window).

National Parks cover 10% of the land area of England, Wales and Scotland.  They are of special value to the whole nation because of their great beauty, their wildlife and cultural interests and the opportunities they offer for quiet enjoyment.  However, they are not nationally owned - the land is in the hands of many landowners or occupiers including farmers.  Over 33,400 people live inside the Dartmoor National Park and many millions of visits are made to it each year.
