Widecombe–in-the-Moor Primary School
at the High Moorland Visitor Centre
Visitors to Dartmoor National Park Authority’s High Moorland Visitor Centre, Princetown, are currently able to enjoy a stunning selection of work produced by pupils at Widecombe-in the-Moor Primary School. The work on display is part of a collection produced during the Schools’ annual Art Week, held in June this year, by the pupils, who are aged between four and eleven years old.
During art week, all 75 children took part in a range of activities in mixed age groups. The activities included: using reclaimed and recycled materials to create large copies of famous art work; working with Sara Bell from South Dartmoor Community College to produce a large abstract series of canvasses depicting the Dartmoor landscape; creating willow sculptures with local artist Shan Palmes; using soil pigments to create pictures with National Park Authority Education Officer, Willem Montagne; making clay tiles depicting the Green Man; using plants and other natural objects to create batik work.
The work on display in the exhibition is of an exceptional standard and can be viewed at the Visitor Centre until Sunday 17 July 2005. The Centre is open daily between 10 am and 5 pm. Further pieces from Widecombe-in-the-Moor Primary School’s Art Week 2005 collection can be viewed in St Pancras’ Church Widecombe-in-the-Moor.
Princetown can be reached by bus from Plymouth, Exeter, Tavistock, Yelverton and Newton Abbot (summer service only). For further information on public transport telephone traveline on 0870 608 2 608.

National Parks cover 10% of the land area of England, Wales and Scotland. They are of special value to the whole nation because of their great beauty, their wildlife and cultural interests and the opportunities they offer for quiet enjoyment. However, they are not nationally owned - the land is in the hands of many landowners or occupiers including farmers. Over 33,000 people live inside the Dartmoor National Park and many millions of visits are made to it each year.
