Alan Kingwell on Dartmoor
| A new exhibition by Plympton based artist Alan Kingwell can be seen at Dartmoor National Park Authority’s High Moorland Visitor Centre in Princetown. Alan Kingwell has been a professional artist for 24 years. He is self taught and specialises in land and seascapes. Living in the South West he is surrounded by inspiration for his paintings - from the beauty of Dartmoor to the rugged coastline. |
His popular moorland and winter scenes reflect his love for natural surroundings and wildlife.
Following success in London as part of The Daily Mail's 'Not the Turner Prize' Alan has been approached by numerous buyers and galleries from all over the country and his work is growing in popularity in Ireland.
Alan Kingwell said:
‘During my years working for the Forestry Commission, I had the opportunity to experience the countryside and coast in their many different moods throughout the year, and although in that period I had little time to paint, I still draw today on the images and the feelings that they evoked. It still amazes me to watch each picture grow, sometimes in an unexpected direction. As I put my heart and soul into my work I often find it difficult to part with a finished painting. I like to live with a painting for a while, but that’s rarely the case, for as soon as it’s completed it goes off to a gallery and I never see it again.’
‘My art means much more to me than just an income, and not being able to paint is a thing that I cannot contemplate.’
This new collection of paintings can be viewed at the High Moorland Visitor Centre, daily, 10 am to 4 pm, until Sunday 1 March 2009. Princetown is accessible by public transport. National Parks cover 10% of the land area of England, Wales and Scotland. They are of special value to the whole nation because of their great beauty, their wildlife and cultural interests and the opportunities they offer for quiet enjoyment. However, they are not nationally owned - the land is in the hands of many landowners or occupiers including farmers. Over 33,500 people live inside the Dartmoor National Park and many millions of visits are made to it each year.
